Celebrating Book Week with Oscar de la Borbolla

Celebrate Writing, Celebrate Reading, Celebrate Belize. Every year, in commemoration of World Book and Copyright Day on April twenty-third, the Belize Book Industry Association organizes “Book Week”. This year it coincides with the presentation of the “21 for 21 Collection”. In partnership with the Mexican Embassy, the Belize National Library Service and Information System hosted Oscar de la Borbolla, a Mexican author whose literary works are being featured in Belize.

“The Mexican Embassy has traditionally supported this event. About two or three years ago, in 2019, they had another author, his name was Oscar Benacini, and he came exactly to this library to assist with youth activities and he traveled also around the country to do readings of this kind pertaining to literature. In the past Book Weeks we have had an event called the Book Fair and at the Book Fair we have different books set up. We have different libraries, we have book sellers and it’s like a big fair, basically. And the Mexicans as well, they display their books during that time. This event, 21 for 21, was an opportunity to share that diplomatic relation and celebration of books. One of the biggest festivals on this side of the world for books happens at the Guadalajara International Festival and this was what we were speaking of at times during this event.”
