Belize football team to Costa Rica
They may be small in stature but the recently formed Belize National Football team is being described as the country’s first team that has been fully trained to compete effectively in tournaments. Today the team left for Costa Rica. News Five was there for the send-off.
Hilberto Muschamp, Team Captain
“This is a very young team. It is the first time we have had a professional coach coaching a Belizean football team and we have been in training for the past two months.”
The eighteen-member team has been training for the Central American Football Nation’s Cup Tournament in Costa Rica which takes place from the seventeenth to the twenty eighth of March. According to Hilberto Muschamp, the team’s captain, although they are a young team they are confident that they will do well in the games.
Hilberto Muschamp
“Most of the Belizean people are not expecting us to do good because it is a young team but they are failing to realize that the team has been training. And this team is now a family and I believe that we will prove that in the Nation’s Cup on Wednesday, starting Wednesday against Costa Rica.”
Q: “Considering the fact that you guys did not have a game before going off to Costa Rica, do you think this will affect the outcome or the performance of the team?”
Jason McCaulley, Defense
“Not a bit. I think we will adapt; we will play out our jitters during the first half of the game.”
The team is expected back in the country on the twenty ninth.
