Cuban Case Attracts International Attention

The case of the Cubans detained in Belize has attracted the interest of the Miami Dade Human Rights Office, who has dispatched a representative to follow the progress of the case. News Five also spoke with that individual, Eddie Sierra, who is the vice president of the Human Rights Commission in Miami, Florida. We asked him if their interest is grounded in any suspicion that the Cubans were heading to Miami.

“We don’t know yet. It all depends on what kind of agreement the Immigration and the lawyers can agree to, but the bottom line is that they have two of the ladies that are being held in jail, they’re pregnant. I think this group of immigrants can actually be moved to somewhere else where they can feel safer while they await determination from the immigration authorities.”
