Dub poetry book released
He says his office is “everything from the Swing Bridge to the Caribbean Sea” and today the man dubbed the “Poet Laureate of Pink’s Alley” launched his book of dub poems. Leroy “the Grandmaster” Young gave a live poetry reading at the mouth of Pink’s Alley. In between dodging cars turning in from North Front Street, Young performed what is likely to become the most popular poem in the book: “Unsolved Mysteries”.
Leroy Young, Poet (recitation)
“terrorists crossing our border
disrupting law and order
then walk away scot free
cause of some minor technicality
yes there’s a long list
bandits in our midst
hitman and terrorist
kidnappers and arsonist
serial killer and rapist
most of dehn eluding justice
if not they are just penalized with a slap on the wrist
it’s amazing you see, for such a small country
how in the world could there be all these
UNSOLVED MYSTERY
Karla come in.”
Among the other poems in the slim volume, “Made in Pink’s Alley” are “Family Court,” “Set Belize Free,” “Crack Head” and “Hang them High”. Young’s book was sponsored by the Area Representative for the Fort George Division, Prime Minister Said Musa and published by the Image Factory.
