Deputy Mayor selected

The City Council has elected Merilyn Young as Deputy Mayor. She will serve for one year. Portfolios were also assigned to each councilor at the meeting on Thursday night. Mayor David Fonseca will be in charge of budget and finance while Deputy Young will oversee sister city relationships, small business initiatives and council affairs. Councilor Eloisa Trujeque will look after sanitation, public health and the environment, markets and unions. Darrell Carter will be in charge of urban infrastructure, city zoning and planning, Marshall Nuñez has community education and the coordination of central government, N.G.O.s, civil society and the City Council. Austin Waight will steer the effort to renovate parks and playgrounds, city beautification, culture and sports while Yasmin Shoman will look after tourist promotion, public relations and social activities. Adrian “Danny” Madrid will head traffic enforcement, security, special constables, ambulance and fire service while Gustavo Perera has a portfolio which includes revenue and small income generation, and human resources. Raymond Cox has responsibility for streets, drains and works and Lillette Barkley Waite will oversee the community participation unit, crime and drug abuse. The new City Council was sworn in March fifth following elections on the third.
