64-year-old man rapes a 7-year-old child
There are disturbing cases of the sexual assault of minors that we are reporting on tonight. The first is an incident in Belize City where a sixty-four-year-old man has been charged with “Rape of a Child” and “Assault of a Child by Penetration.” The elderly man was charged on Tuesday. But according to the police report, back on April sixth officers had responded to a report of sexual abuse of a minor at a residence in Belize City. There, they found a seven-year-old girl who said that her step-grandfather touched her inappropriately on April fourth. She also reported that last December, the elderly man also attempted to have sexual intercourse with her. A medical exam certified that the minor was carnally known and the injuries were classified as grievous harm. The minor has since been removed from the home by the Department of Human Services and the elderly man charged for both incidents. Earlier this week, on a separate matter, ComPol Chester Williams spoke about the changes in the law when it comes to cases of this nature.

“Even though, yes we know that the law has changed where in the past it required there must be some level of corroboration, but that is no more the case. There need not be any corroboration. Remember rape is the slightest degree of penetration.”
