Women’s fair Saturday

Story Picture
Two years ago, the Women’s Issues Network of Belize made a commitment to renew the organization after a four-year lull. Today WIN and its fifteen members are working as hard as ever to create opportunities for women to progress. On Saturday the organization will be having its first big activity since regrouping. According to Gayla Fuller, WIN’s Coordinator, and Joyce Flowers, a WIN volunteer, you will not only be able to enjoy entertainment, food and drinks but there will be a lot of information and workshops on health issues that are of concern to everyone.

Gayla Fuller, Coordinator, WIN

“Our focus right now is to become a countrywide network and we have invited a lot of participants from out district. We have a lot of women coming in from different districts and the purpose of the fair is to promote and celebrate women. It is a time for information sharing; it is a time for gathering; it is a time that we can show that we are here to work as a team; we can work as a team. Our main focus right now too is that we want to work towards employment and training because we know that economic issues are very important to women and we are here working for more opportunities so women can become economically independent.”

Joyce Flowers, Volunteer, WIN

“The different member organizations will be having booths out there with their literature, displaying crafts and the crafts will also be on sale. We will also have food, different types of food on sale. Then we will be having workshops on stress management and back care. We will also have workshops on cancer; how to access funds for small businesses. We will also have a workshop on how to make use of the Family Court.”

Flowers says there will also be a street parade on Thursday promoting WIN. The fair gets underway from nine, Saturday morning at the Belize Technical College. Fuller says although it is a women’s affair, men are encouraged to attend.
