New J.P.s sworn in

Story Picture
In other government news, a number of new Justices of the Peace were sworn-in this weekend and five J.P.s were elevated to senior status. Attorney General Dickie Bradley told the new J.P.s that more is being asked now of Belize’s Justices of the Peace than ever before.

Dickie Bradley, Attorney General

“Justices of the Peace are now responsible, and it is entirely voluntary on you the individual, you are now being called upon by your country, by your association and by the Government of Belize to become involved. As I listen to the J.P.s discussing the problems facing our society, this is a serious office that you have sworn to carry out conscientiously and faithfully.”

J.P.s will now be able to issue traffic tickets and assist with reporting truant school children. During Saturday’s swearing-in, the thirty-nine J.P.s were given copies of the new J.P. handbook and the Constitution of Belize. The oath was administered by Acting Chief Justice Troadio Gonzalez.
