Rotary furnishes school
While many people complain about the condition of the nation’s primary schools, one organization is doing something to change things for the better. The Rotary Club of Belize has completely outfitted the Ontario Village Christian School with almost three hundred student desks and chairs, nine teacher desks and cabinets. The furniture was built by Velasquez Furniture Shop of San Ignacio. According to Rotary this is the first time the school, which was built 49 years ago by Christian missionaries, has been completely furnished. Twenty thousand dollars in funding for the project was provided by the Rotary Club of Henderson, North Carolina, Rotary International and the Rotary Club of Belize. Rotary President Tony Flynn says there are several other school projects in the pipeline including a joint effort with the newly formed San Ignacio Rotary Club to provide desks to a school in San Ignacio. Two schools in Belize City will also be given classroom furniture.
