Xaibe family robbed
A family in Xaibe Village in the Corozal District was terrorized by five masked men over the weekend. Another man, who may have been involved in the holdup, is in the Corozal Hospital after being shot that same night. Police say that thirty-eight year old Adolfo Duran was at home with his family when five masked men entered demanding money. Duran told police that the men took five thousand dollars cash and jewelry from family members. The men then demanded the keys for his van. Duran says one of the men held a gun at his cheek and told him in Spanish that if he cooperated no one would get hurt. However, another relative approached to see what was wrong and the men fired shots at him but missed. They then fled in Duran’s van but abandoned it near Concepcion village. However, police say that a man, who identified himself as Jose Falis, was found apparently suffering from a bullet wound on the road about two miles from Duran’s home in Concepcion. The injured man claimed that three masked men entered his home around seven thirty that night and demanded money. He says they shot him and left him on the side of the road. But the villagers of Xaibe and Concepcion have apparently told police they have never seen Falis before and don’t recall him staying in either of the villages. News Five was told that Adolfo Duran visited the hospital and after hearing Falis speak, said he recognized his voice and is alleging that Falis was the masked man that held the gun to his cheek. Family members also tell News Five that blood was found in Duran’s van. No arrests, however, have been made in connection with the incident.
