Voters discuss Citco issues
You may not be feeling like it’s the day before elections but Belize City residents will be voting for their City Council tomorrow. But will the people turn out in significant numbers and what are some of the issues they would like the new City Council to deal with? News Five spoke with some voters this afternoon. The condition of the city streets seemed to be a major concern.
Voter #1
“Yes, I will vote tomorrow. I will vote because I hope whoever win it will be for the betterment of the country and I hope we see some improvement.”
Voter #2
“I will vote tomorrow and I don’t think I will not split my vote and I will vote because it’s my legal right.”
Voter #3
“Sometimes a split is good. I heard different comments that if there is a split there will be a division between them. But both parties have expressed views that if there is a split City Council Election they are willing to work.”
Voter #4
“Big up the city make Belize City get better. Get back in a better condition than it used to be.”
Voter #5
“Well, I am not sure.”
Q: “Why?”
Voter #5
“Well, I am not sure yet. It all depends on when I come home from work.”
Voter #6
“I am going to vote straight eleven on the P.U.P.
Voter #7
“Tomorrow is a busy day. I am not in the voting business right now because I am a hustling man and I can’t really be doing that.”
Voter #2
“One of the main things is the streets and houses. That’s one of the main things I would like for them to deal with.”
Voter #3
“Well basically I believe it’s streets and proper garbage collection will be an issue.”
Voter #4
“Well I hope they fix up the streets.”
Voter #8
“I would like to see them put in a lot of drains in the different streets, especially those in the back.”
Polling stations open tomorrow at seven in the morning and close at six. Both the P.U.P. and U.D.P. are fielding ten candidates for councilor and a mayoral candidate. News Five will have live reports from the City Center in tomorrow’s newscast as well as live election night coverage beginning at 7:30 p.m.
