Mullins River Village Resident Loses Life in Humming Bird Highway R.T.A.
A road traffic accident claimed the life of a woman on the Hummingbird Highway. The deceased, identified as sixty-four-year-old Bernalda Pinelo, a resident of Mullins River Village in the Stann Creek District, was traveling in the passenger seat of a pickup truck along with fifty-three-year-old Paul Bernard when it collided into a James Bus. The James Bus was being driven at the time by forty-seven-year-old Rolando Duran. He told police that he was traveling from the direction of Belmopan, and upon reaching between miles two and three on the Stann Creek Valley Road, he noticed the pickup truck coming out of the right side of a dirt road. Duran told police that he flashed his light and honked the horn to alert the other driver. He noted that the pickup truck stopped and reversed into the dirt road. Suddenly, he noticed the pickup truck sped onto the highway and then attempted to make a left turn. The bus driver says he applied his brakes, but he was unable to stop in time. The bus collided into the front portion of the pickup truck.
