B.G.A. gives police $75,000
The Banana Grower’s Association has given the Ministry of National Security a donation of seventy-five thousand dollars for the construction of a police sub-station at the junction of the Southern Highway and the road to Placencia. The project and the donation were originally announced less than a year ago by the previous Minister of National Security Dean Barrow. The donation was made this morning by Chairman of the B.G.A. Tony Zabaneh and General Manager Zaid Flores at a meeting in Big Creek, Independence. Among the issues discussed with Minister Jorge Espat was the recently announced immigration policy, the need for foreign labor in the banana belt and security needs in the area. Following the meeting the Minister and Commissioner of Police Ornel Brooks visited the Intermediate Southern Formation and spoke with Commander Godfrey Smith and his police officers.
