New Curriculum to be piloted in September

Yolanda Gongora

The new curriculum will be piloted initially in primary and secondary government schools. According to Chief Education Officer Yolanda Gongora, teachers will receive some training in August to prepare them.

Yolanda Gongora, Chief Education Officer

“We will be piloting particular with our government schools – both secondary and primary, but we are encouraging all schools to be a part of this innovation as we move forward. We are looking forward to 2023 that this is going to be the curriculum. After the pilot, we do a revision and then we make changes as necessary. We will have to be doing training. So training of teachers will happen in July and August, particularly August for our teachers as it relates to professional development, but we will have to train our teachers in this new method of using project-based assignments and competency based. In competency based, you do an attempt and you try it again until you’ve mastered it and then you move to the next level. And so the grading will be based on competency. lt is a new concept for some of them, but for people that come from technical vocational, that’s how you operate.”
