Soldiers hold charity swim
Members of the British Forces in Belize today donated three thousand dollars to the Ladyville Evangelical School. Andy Harvey of the British Forces Broadcasting Service told News Five members got help from local businesses but the main contribution was made by the soldiers at the airport camp. Eighteen soldiers participated in a charity swim on February twelfth from St. George’s Caye to Belize City, a distance of nine and a half miles. Harvey says that the swimmers had undergone a voluntary training program that took place in the BATSUB swimming pool during the soldiers lunch breaks. The only problem the swimmers encountered was a change in current near Swallow Caye. The Principal of the Ladyville Evangelical School Joslyn Gill says he is very grateful to the force for their kind contribution. Gill says that the school toilets are not in the best of shape and the money will be used to repair them for the children.
