Sportscaster arrested for weapon possession

Story Picture
On this broadcast we don’t usually report routine police busts for unlicensed firearms or small quantities of drugs… but when the man busted is one of our own broadcasters the public figure doctrine comes into play… and the chips must fall where they may. News Five sports reporter James Adderley was today arrested for the possession of three unlicensed firearms and a quantity of ammunition, as well as possession of prohibited drugs. The charges were the result of an early morning search by members of the Police Dragon Unit and Quick Response Team at Adderley’s home on Wilson Street in Belize City. According to sources in the Police Department the search turned up a twenty-two calibre Derringer pistol, along with one sixteen gauge and one twelve gauge shotgun. Accompanying ammunition included shells for both shotguns, twenty-eight 3-5-7 calibre cartridges and a few assorted rounds of smaller ammo. The drugs in question amounted to a half ounce of marijuana. Adderley’s wife Dawn was also arrested and it is believed they will be formally charged in Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday morning. At newstime arrangements were being made to grant Dawn police bail but James is expected to spend the night behind bars. We here at Channel Five are not sure why Adderley is being singled out for what appears to be unusually slow processing but we are certain that Jah will be watching over him.
