Man caught molesting eleven year old

Story Picture
When your child is at school, you hope they are safe. But these days that’s not always the case. Police say there are men out there who are preying on little girls and offering them money for sexual favors. Yesterday police caught a man they say was about to assault a student from St. Luke’s Primary School in the St. Martin De Porres area. Hyacinth Latchman reports.

“It is the same spot yesterday around three thirty, forty-four year old Efrain Eraso attempted to have sexual intercourse with an eleven year old student. Luckily for the child a police officer was passing by at the same time.”

A.I.P. Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B.

“A detective off duty Egbert Castillo, he was in the area of Banak Street and Partridge Street when he saw an eleven year old girl dressed in uniform entering a section of a building which is situated at this same corner own by B.T.L. company. When he noticed that he went to investigate. He found this same Spanish person zipping up his pants and the little girl putting up her underwear. As a result of that he held unto Mr. Eraso, conducted a search on him and found a knife on him.”

Alvarez says that the little girl was brought before police along with her parents and what was said by the minor was astonishing.

“According to the little girl in the presence of her parents, her mother, she reported that around mid-day Mr. Eraso had visited her school which was in the St. Martin de Porres area and invited her to meet him at that same location sometime after three thirty which in fact she did when the police actually saw what was happening. She also told us that this is the second time she has come in contact with this particular person and that for every visit she made she was given a ten dollar Belize currency by this individual.”

According to the little girl she was not the only person that Eraso had invited to go to the building after school. She told police he had invited other girls from her school before. Alvarez says that he believes men like Eraso are mentally ill.

“I would strongly believe that there is something wrong in the mind of that particular person. Look at this forty-four year old to an eleven year old child. What would he do to his own child? Something is very wrong; I think the psychiatrist will need to talk to these kind of people.”

Alvarez is encouraging anyone who knows a child that is being molested or has been molested, to call the police immediately. He says more than ten sexual crimes against children have been committed since January. He says the problem is also much larger than children being offered money from strangers for sex. He had strong words for anyone harboring runaway teens.

“We will hold them liable as the person who committed the crime. So I am sending a strong message that if any child is at your residence and that child is reported missing and is found by the police that person that was holding that child will be dealt with criminally. So I am giving them a warning right now. Don’t encourage and tolerate runaway kids from home especially females, because when they are away from home they are being sexually molested.”

Eraso will be taken to Magistrate’s Court tomorrow where he will be charged for carnal knowledge and indecent assault. In other related incidents members of the Zone Beat Liaison Office who work closely with the community in various matters of community interest yesterday apprehended a twelve year old student who had been reported missing since the twelfth of this month. According to police, the student was taken to a doctor and it was confirmed that she had been sexually molested. Police say they are looking for a man identified as Dale in connection with this incident. Under the law, as well as the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child, a person is considered a minor until the age of eighteen. Anyone found having sex with someone under this age can be prosecuted.
