U.D.P. launches Citco manifesto

The United Democratic Party this morning launched its manifesto for the upcoming City Council Elections. In a press conference today members of the U.D.P. slate said if they are successful they will liberate and rehabilitate Belize City. To do this the party pledges in its manifesto that they will establish a modern branch of the National Library Service on the south side of the city. They say they will improve and expand the city’s public transportation system to ensure that all areas of the city have access to bus service. The U.D.P. eleven also pledge to provide and maintain sufficient garbage cans all over the city and at all public areas. News Five spoke to the Secretary General of the United Democratic Party Audrey Wallace who says that they had consultations to make sure that the people of Belize City will benefit from these long-term plans.

“We recognize that to accomplish this long term goal it will take some time. So what we did in this manifesto is to outline do-able actions. Things that the people of Belize can hold the United Democratic Party to for the next four years. Things that can be done for the next four years.

After having, after six months we’ve had the P.U.P. ruling the town boards and the City Council. We’ve also seen a lot of hideous things done, been done by the People’s United Party. And, I think that Belize City people need to stop and show the power of their vote and show that they can send a message to Belmopan.”

The manifesto, which extends to the year two thousand and three, is being distributed by members of the United Democratic Party. The document covers education, public transportation, environmental concerns, recreation, public safety, infrastructure, training, culture, sports and youth, market places and taxes. In other U.D.P. news, the party is holding a public meeting at St. Mary’s Hall tonight to discuss the removal of the Chief Justice from office.
