St. Francis Xavier Credit Union Members Want Former General Manager Reinstated

Last Friday, a group of about twenty-five members of the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union in Corozal Town staged a protest in front of the lending institution, against what they allege are irregularities and unethical behaviour that have been perpetrated by the current administration. Coupled with that claim is what they alleged was the termination of the contract of the General Manager, Rafael Dominguez. The credit union had issued a pair of press releases in which it denied that Dominguez was fired. The institution explained that Dominguez was on a five-year contract that expired and was not renewed in the best interest of the credit union. But, the members would have none of it and want to call their own Special Meeting to discuss that matter and the other burning issues. Everaldo Puck, a member of the credit union, explained that Rafael Dominguez was a good general manager who grew the institution.

“We have already made it clear that the termination was illegal. It was not the time yet and what makes matters worse is that only an A.G.M. can decide whether a manager stays or not. It was illegal. What we need to mention here also, because it’s coming on out social media is that he hasn’t been managing well. Well for your information, his ten years of management, assets have grown from fifty-three million to a hundred and seven million. Membership has grown from twenty-three thousand to thirty-two thousand, and growing. So there is no argument about his efficiency. That is why the majority of members want him back, and the board does not have the power to say that he is not longer our general manager.”
