Orange Walk accidents leave 2 dead
Separate traffic accidents over the weekend have left a man and a child dead and several others injured. According to Orange Walk police around two thirty Sunday morning, Idelmo Coyoc, Israel Coyoc and Marcos Gongora were walking on the Northern Highway towards Corozal Town. As they reached the El Paso Bar, a red Toyota car travelling at a high speed in the same direction knocked down all three pedestrians. Idelmo Coyoc received severe head and body injuries and died on the spot. Gongora was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital with two broken legs, a broken right arm and injuries to his face and chest. Israel Coyoc received a cut to his right arm. Police have arrested twenty year old Mark Chavarria, driver of the car, and charged him with causing death by careless conduct, failure to report a traffic accident, manslaughter by negligence, negligent grevious harm, negligent wounding, and failure to stop and render aid. According to police they do not know if Chavarria was drunk because the young man refused to do any urine or blood test.
But as soon as Orange Walk police had finished dealing with this accident, they were once again back on the road investigating yet another traffic accident. According to the police around nine fifteen Sunday night, twenty-four year old Rigoberto Navarro reported to them that while he was driving his car in the village of San Estevan, a jeep driven by twenty-five year old Lucio Flores and heading in the same direction collided into him. The crash forced both vehicles off the road. Travelling along with Navarro at the time of the crash was six year old Albert Trujillo. Trujillo, who received a broken jaw and other facial injuries was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. But shortly after undergoing surgery, the young boy died. A postmortem revealed that Trujillo’s lungs had been severely damaged by the crash and he died from traumatic asphyxia.
