U.D.P. Excoriates Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin
Deputy Mayor Micah Goodin has come under severe criticism from the United Democratic Party, following a weekend shooting in which he was involved. Shadow Minister of National Security Mike Peyrefitte maintains that the sitting Minister of Home Affairs, his Chief Executive Officer and the Commissioner of Police should demit office forthwith. He points to Saturday morning’s mayhem on Newtown Barracks as an example of their inability to carry out their jobs effectively. In the wake of the incident that left twenty-year-old Tae Medina with a graze to the neck, the U.D.P. is calling for charges to be brought against Goodin. Peyrefitte contends that in any other instance, Goodin would have been arraigned on charges related to the shooting incident.

“Nobody has moved to say suspend him, reprimand him in any way so far? It’s rank hypocrisy. People have been charged for less than this. I will get into the law and OJ [Elrington] can correct me since he seems to be more active than myself these days. People have been charged for less than what Micah Goodin finds himself in today. You have shots coming from a vehicle, a report is made. Tarique James was in Micah Goodin’s vehicle and he has been charged with discharging a firearm in public. Under the law, Micah Goodin being the owner and controller of that vehicle is responsible for what comes from that vehicle. If I’m driving a vehicle and I give somebody a ride and the police see me throw a gun out of the vehicle, I am responsible because I am the owner and controller of that vehicle until it can be disproved by me that it wasn’t me who threw it out the window. So when shots come from your vehicle, as is reported, you are responsible and you are supposed to be charged because that has the markings of a joint enterprise.”
