U.D.P. says it’s time for Citco to change

Story Picture
Shortly after the conclusion of the P.U.P. presentation at Independence Hall, the United Democratic Party supporters made their way from their new headquarters by the BelChina Bridge to City Hall. Although their arrival was a little more subdued, those U.D.P. running for office expressed their optimism, saying after three terms with a P.U.P. City Council, they believe the residents want a change.

Patrick Faber, Councilor Candidate, U.D.P.

“I feel optimistic as we go around talking to people. I feel confident that our slate will be victorious on March third and that’s because the people can see that what the P.U.P. are doing is just a quick fix of the city. Streets are being graded, lights are put up. You know, a lot of small things that they are doing and people are aware that it’s just a facade.”

Sydney Fuller, Councilor Candidate, U.D.P.

“The city has been neglected for some years now. The present P.U.P. city council has been in government for the last nine years and they have neglected Belize City. There are no jobs, no proper drainage facilities and garbage collection, so people are really fed up and they need a change.”

Myrna Manzanares, Councilor Candidate, U.D.P.

“I was disappointed not running for the mayoral candidate but it’s a team so I’m comfortable with that. But in terms of functioning, I think that what is going to happen is that all of our strengths is going to be analyzed and all of our expertise are going to be analyzed and those are the things we’re gonna group together as a team and look at the areas of strength that we have so that we can proportion those so that we can work with those and supplement for each other what is not there. In terms of the city itself we are looking at dividing the city into the different electoral divisions as well as within the different electoral divisions having the different paths within those areas where people can get together and work together and we are there to assist and we know who to go to for help.”

Anthony “Boots” Martinez, Mayoral Candidate, U.D.P.

“I feel confident; I think we have a tremendous team working including two women and I think our motto is more work than talk. I think we are ready to serve the Belizean people because I think the definition of a politician is to serve. I think what happen our manifesto is a very good one which will rehabilitate, liberate and dedicate this city back to Belizeans and I think that in itself, our manifesto is full of issues in there that is do-able. For example proper infrastructure, parks, playgrounds, strong fiscal management and do-able stuff including making sure that we work along with the schools for traffic safety and all of these stuff. I think we are confident as a team and I think that with the push that we have gotten from the community at large, at going from house to house, I think that confident that we can win on March the third.”

According to U.D.P. headquarters, copies of the party’s City Council Manifesto will be available to the public within the next two days. Candidates for the City Council election had to be nominated by two eligible voters and pay a fifty-dollar fee. Those nominated by the P.U.P. are: David Fonseca for Mayor, and councilors Darrel Carter, Raymond Cox, Danny Madrid, Marshall Nuñez, Gus Pererra, Yasmin Shoman, Eloisa Trujeque, Austin Waight, Lillette Barkley Waite and Merilyn Young. The United Democratic Party’s candidate for Mayor is Anthony “Boots” Martinez. Councilor candidates are Denise Barrow, Sydney Fuller, Patrick Faber, Brain Hall, Deon Lind, Myrna Manzanares, Albert Robinson, Enrique Silva, Chester Sutherland and Dale Anthony.
