Belize’s Counter Memorial Finalized, Soon to be Submitted
As you just heard, Guatemala is claiming two-thirds of Belize’s territory. And while the work of Belize’s I.C.J. team continues, Belize’s counter-memorial in the Belize/Guatemala I.C.J. case has been finalized and is in the process of being submitted in time for June eighth. This was confirmed by Minister of Foreign Affairs Eamon Courtenay during a one-on-one interview with News Five this afternoon. Minister Courtenay says that the memorial is with the printers in London. After its submission, Guatemala will then have six months to respond.
Eamon Courtenay, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Trade & Immigration
“The counter memorial has now been finalized, it is now at the printers, it is being printed and some additional work is being done because you know in six months Guatemala has to reply and then we have six months. So there is some additional work that requires some more research and that is being undertaken at this time.”

“So at what date is filed?”
Eamon Courtenay
“We have to file it before the eighth of June. So I don’t know. We’ll file it on the fourth or fifth, I don’t know. But we will file it before the eighth.”
