A Second Person Detained for Elderly Man’s Murder
A post mortem examination on the body of seventy-nine-year-old Daniel Castellanos, a resident of Belmopan, certifies that he died of hypovolemic shock due to internal hemorrhage caused by multiple perforating gunshot wounds. But while it is clear how the elderly man died, police are still trying to zero in on who, exactly, shot and killed him. In connection with this, they have detained a second person for the Saturday morning murder, which took place at Castellanos’ Garza Street address which he shares with his ten children. The second suspect, according to our police sources, is a friend of one of Castellanos’ sons. The deceased had been inside his room when someone banged on the door just after twelve that morning and he got up and opened the door, chiding the person. That was when he was reportedly shot, but the nearby surveillance camera did not capture the incident, nor did any of Castellanos’ family members see who shot him. Police had initially detained one of his sons, but that was based on someone’s claim – an allegation that Castellanos’ son later told the media was retracted by the person who made the claim. Luis Castellanos explained that everyone is left in shock over an incident that should have never happened.
