Rugby Player Says He Looks Forward to Scoring for Belize Again
Usher explained that he was able to score the goal not once, but three times, and it all has to do with his lightning speed, which he was able to develop from being in track and field prior to joining the rugby team. And although he admits he was a bit intimidated playing a contact sport against much bigger guys, he feels that because he got the experience, he’ll be able to score more for Belize.
Ashton Usher, Rugby Player
“I believe playing in RANS Qualifiers was way out of my league playing with professional rugby players that have been playing for like two to five years. It’s only been like two years I’ve been playing with Rugby Belize. Playing with Canada, Jamaica, Mexico, seeing those big clubs that have the finance to support them to get to that level weh dehn deh, it’s really inspiring.”

“Is it intimidating?”
Ashton Usher
“It is intimidating because playing against guys bigger than me – because I’m small, but what makes me different, what makes me stand out from other people is because of my speed, through being a track and field runner and playing rugby, it kind of have – the chemistry works together.”
Usher encourages more youths to learn about the sport, which is a bit more tactical than American football.
