Grey charged with murder
While the Garbutt and Franklin murders are still under investigation, police seem convinced they have found the man responsible for a double homicide last month in Ladyville. Selwyn Grey, a butcher of Kelly Street, who had been previously charged with conspiracy in the deaths of Vincent “Big Boy” Jones and Frederick “Bibi” Neal has now been charged with the murder. Simeon Alvarez says while the accused has consistently denied being involved in the killing, Grey’s handprints were found on the windshield of the taxi in which the men were shot. Alvarez says there are also a number of witnesses who claim to have seen Grey in the taxi with the victims the night of the murder. However, police say the motive is still not known, but they believe Grey was the only person involved with the crime.
A.I.P. Simeon Alvarez, Head of C.I.B.
“The motive is still not very, very clear whether it was a drug related move or it was a revenge or something of that sort because the suspect, the person that we have arrested and charged he denied every single aspect of this investigation and as a matter of fact his prints were found in the vehicle just next to the driver’s on the glass, on the driver’s side. Some prints were found on that particular vehicle.
We have other witnesses who actually saw this guy Grey in the vehicle that particular night and when he was questioned by the police he denied being in that vehicle with those guys for 3-4 days. Verbally he denied and he was actually seen in Belize City just that night before the incident took place.”
Alvarez says police do not believe the double murder is connected to the murder of teenager Samantha Gordon late last year in Ladyville. Police are convinced, however, that the brothers were taken to the dirt road off eight miles on the Northern Highway by someone they knew and then killed execution style.
