Deadly Shooting in Sugar City; Is It Drug-related?

Multiple gunshots rang out in Sugar City last night and when the shooting subsided two men were left for dead in front of a shop on Aurora Street. It is believed that the callous attack may have been carried out by rival gangs in the area and, despite an attempt by residents in the area to transport the injured men to the hospital, Reynaldo Marchand would lose his life. The incident happened sometime around 8:30 p.m. This morning, police in Orange Walk were conducting operations along with the Quick Response Team and the Mobile Interdiction Team to prevent any reprisals. News Five’s Isani Cayetano reports.

A pair of men came under deadly gunfire on Wednesday night in Orange Walk Town.  They were both in front of 501 Shop near Stains Alley when two men on a motorcycle rode up to them. What took place immediately thereafter has left thirty-one-year-old Nazir Vasquez hospitalized at the Northern Regional Hospital. His friend, thirty-eight-year-old Reynaldo Marchand, did not survive the attack. He was shot twice and succumbed to his injuries while receiving emergency medical attention. According to a statement given to investigators, the gunmen emerged from the direction of the nearby Shell Gas Station. An individual on the motorcycle produced a firearm and took aim at the unsuspecting men. As many as eight expended nine millimeter shells were later recovered from the scene of the shooting. Vasquez, a resident of Palmeto Street, was injured multiple times in the back, legs and arm. While no one has been arrested for the deadly attack, police believe that the incident is drug-related.
