Florencio Marin Sr. Takes on Sugar Industry
Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, Jose Mai played a critical role in brokering an intervention between sugar cane farmers and A.S.R./B.S.I. back in December of 2021. So, if Minister Mai has shown that he is prepared to act as a mediator between both parties, why are the services of former Deputy Prime Minister Florencio Marin needed? This is what we asked PM Briceño.
Paul Lopez
“Is Minister Mai, who did some interventions during the last strike, not capable of effort? And I ask that to ask if former Minister Marin is really needed.”
Prime Minister John Briceño
“Absolutely you could ask that question. Basically it was Minister Mai and myself that we had to spend probably about three days in negotiations. Now, Minister Mai is not only the Minister for Sugar Industry. He is the Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise. So, he has the big picture to look after, and right now because of the tension between the farmers and B.S.I. he does would not have the time to dedicate to that every single day. So, we believe that by bringing in Florencio Marin he will be able to take care of that problem for us while we continue to push agriculture. Look at what we have done.”
