Woman paralyzed after fall at Police Station
A fifty-three year old accountant and realtor lies in the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after a fall during a business trip to the Criminal Investigation Branch at the Queen Street Police Station. According to Virginia Forman, on Friday she was entering one of the C.I.B. offices in the back building when she suddenly went through the flooring. Forman believes the accident would have never happened if the police had posted warning signs at the sections of the building that are presently under construction. Today Forman spoke with News Five from her hospital bed.

“They are repairing there; everybody can see that they are giving the Police Station and the office of C.I.B. a facelift and in so doing on the visit one of a certain officer told me to come into his office. As I was about to enter his office the flooring gave-way and I came tumbling down right through and through the flooring to the bottom which is made of complete cement and I hit my, I drop on my hind, you know. I also hit my head so horrible, I thought that was it.
I think they should have some cautionary notices, or caution or something to let the public know that it is dangerous to be there or don’t even bother to come there or something of the sort. That’s the only thing that I’d like to relate to the officers there or the ones who are in control of the construction of the place.”
Q: “What’s your present condition?”
Virginia Forman
“Well right now I can move my hands, but my torso — from here go up — I can’t move it. The doctor recommended for me not to move it so that the fracture of the spine that I received could go in place, you know. Bad things could happen if I don’t take caution so I can’t move from my neck to the end of my torso. It could have been real fatal, but I think I was lucky, I think I had a guardian angel with me even though I fall through and through the flooring.
I hope that they have taken some cautionary measures by putting some signs there to guard the people not to come through there.”
Forman, who is temporarily paralyzed, must remain on her back for six weeks. When asked if she intends to sue the Police Department, Forman said she is not certain as to what she will do. But says she intends to go away to receive further treatment.
