Belize City Resident Seeks Financial Assistance On Behalf of Ailing Brother

A Belize City resident is seeking financial assistance on behalf of his eldest brother, Alexander Cardenes. Milton Cardenes, the middle child of three brothers, is taking on the medical expenses associated with Alexander’s ailment. Alexander has racked up nearly ten thousand dollars in hospital bills. Due to his deteriorated physical condition, he is unable to work. And, while Milton has been making down payments on the outstanding debt so that Alexander can continue to receive treatment, he says he has been neglecting his own bills. So, Milton Cardenes, a cab driver, reached out to our newsroom to give us an interview. Here is what he told us.

“My brother Alexander right now he is critical. He had a tube in his stomach and he can’t talk. He has a tube in his throat he has to breathe through. The doctor is saying is that will remain with him for life. Alex is well known. He is a city bus driver that drove city buses for many years. He did Belama route for a number of years, and then he did Faber’s Road a couple of times and then the route for Central American Boulevard. What happened in 2020, he suffered a stroke in the city bus. He stopped drive from then. Then right now he gets in an incident where his throat was slit and that is what it leads into right now. The burden is on me fully because I have the medical bill on my behalf, plus I have my own personal bills to as well. I have my rent to pay and mortgage to pay. This is now an extra expense. The bill was nine thousand seven hundred and nineteen fifty. I do a down payment for one thousand eight hundred and ninety five dollars, and I have a balance of seven thousand eight thousand and twenty four fifty. So I was just pleading and asking for a financial assistance to take care of this bill. There is also a second opinion and I mih want try sih if I could get ah across the border to do a next step as well. I really don’t want to give up on him, he is my brother and in age wise he is the one I follow.”
