The Land Registry Department of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Petroleum and Mining continues to carry out its land registration mobile clinics across the country. The department’s latest stop was in Hopkins, Seine Bight, and Placencia. Residents showed up to renew old land titles under the deed system to a land certificate. Here is a brief look at how that activity went.

Patricia Blackett, Registrar of Land, Land Registry Department

“We are doing this first registration mobile for the entire country. We chose Placencia because we have a lot of land owner in Seine Bights, Hopkins, Placencia that do not submit their applications yet for first registration. Majority of these land owners live abroad. So, we want to encourage land owners to submit applications so that we have these applications in the system so that they can check on the status online. It is important to register your land, due to compulsory registration. The Register Land Act was established in 1977. One of the objectives of the act is simplify the procedure for dealing with land title, title from the deed system, non parcel based system to parcel based system, the land registry system.”
