Former Supreme Court Judge dies
A former Justice of the Supreme Court Satchi Ponnambalam died over the weekend at his home in Belize City. He came to Belize in 1981 as a contract officer to the judiciary to serve as a magistrate. Four years later he was promoted to Puisne Judge in the Supreme Court. He held the post for eight years, retiring in 1993. Justice Ponnambalam, who was also a scholar, authored two books on the political system of his native Sri Lanka. In accordance with Hindu tradition he was cremated this morning during services in Orange Walk Town. He is survived by his wife Vasi, the principal of Hummingbird Elementary School and their three daughters.
