Miss Rainforest crowned
A young woman from the Dominican Republic has been selected as the first Miss Rainforest International during a pageant this weekend in San Ignacio, Cayo. Silvia Navarro not only wins the title from a field of six contestants but will receive a trip to Houston courtesy of Taca Airlines and assorted other prizes. The pageant went off without a hitch despite an incident last week in which the contestants’ van was broken into while they were on a guided tour of the Tapir Mountain Reserve. Two thousand dollars in jewelry was stolen from the group. San Ignacio police tell News Five so far none of the items has been recovered.
