B.D.F. opens military museum

Thousands of people helped the Belize Defence force celebrate its twenty-first anniversary this weekend at Airport Camp in Ladyville. Among those offering his congratulations to the members of the force was Minister of National Security Jorge Espat. He told the soldiers that their success provides a lesson for the greater society.

“The story of the Belize Defence Force is extraordinary; the institution of the Belize Defence Force offers us a panorama of Belizean life, struggle and success, renewal and rejuvenation. The exceptional accomplishments are representative of an invaluable lesson. With community we can realize the meaning of our citizenship.”

The anniversary on Saturday also marked the opening of the B.D.F. museum which proudly displays weapons, artifacts, photographs and momentous of Belizean military life. Included among the items are uniforms belonging to the Volunteer guards that fought in both World Wars.
