Gunman arrested in shooting of elderly woman
Police have apprehended a man who confessed to shooting sixty-five year old Barbara Savery of 189 West Collet Canal while she was inside her house. The incident, which News Five reported on Friday, left Savery with a gunshot wound to the upper right arm and breast. Today, police charged Ian August better known as “BaBo” with attempted murder, discharging a firearm, wounding and use of deadly means of harm. According to the head of the Criminal Investigations Branch Simeon Alvarez, the police received information Sunday morning that led them to August’s home at number three Young Street. But evidently August was in no hurry to accompany the police and hid in the attic of the house. According to Alvarez, during August’s confession he told them he had fired shots near Savery’s house because two days earlier he was badly beaten by the victim’s son, Ernest “C.D.” Savery and other young men at the corner of George and West Streets. August will appear in Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.
