International Red Cross opens earthquake appeal

In related news, the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement has launched an initial appeal of eleven million Swiss Francs or about sixteen point five million U.S. dollars to help earthquake victims in Colombia. However, all donations are being requested in cash since the items needed can be purchased locally. The International Red Cross says the Colombian Red Cross urgently needs the money to purchase first aid supplies, shelter materials, food and kitchen utensils and lanterns and generators. A full appeal will be announced in the coming weeks. If you would like to assist the earthquake victims through the Red Cross, cash donations will be accepted by the Belize Red Cross on behalf of the Colombian Red Cross. These can be made to the Belize Red Cross headquarters on Gabourel Lane or Barclays Bank on Albert Street. Checks should be made out to the Belize Red Cross “Colombia Relief”.
