Government to Review Ports System With a View To Enhance the Standards
Belize, as a country that relies heavily on imports, depends on the ports to receive goods, as well as to ship goods abroad. But we sometimes run into problems because the system which we still subscribe to does not always meet international standards. But that is an area that the government is looking to enhance shortly, as the minister responsible for Ports, Michel Chebat told the media on Thursday.

“We need to look at our entire ports system. The ports play a critical part in our economy and we have to make sure that our ports are efficient and that they provide the correct avenues for our manufacturers and producers to be able to ship our goods and services, taking into considerations that the Government of Belize does not own any port in Belize. We’re only the policy makers and the regulators and so we try our best to keep in constant dialogue with the port operators to make sure that they are maintaining a certain standard and that they are creating new avenues for our Belizean producers.”
