MOE to Launch a Loss Mitigation Summer Program
The Ministry of Education is launching a summer program as an immediate step to addressing the learning deficit as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Francis Fonseca, Minister of Education
“There is a lot of work to do, but we are taking immediate steps to address that issue. We are launching very shortly a summer program, a loss mitigation summer program across the country that will target directly those learning gaps that have been identified. We are working with some master teachers, we are taking on some retired teachers who will work specifically with these students throughout the country on addressing those learning gaps that have been identified.”

“Is there any plan to open school early?”
Francis Fonseca
“We have discussed that issue. Obviously it is not a decision we can make on our own. We have to consult and engage with the teacher’s union, for example, and our other stakeholders, the managing authorities. So that’s not an easy one. We have discussed it but so far no, no decision has been made to open school early.”
