The Unauthorized Sale of Carbon Credits in Belize

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management that there are a number of companies purporting to sell carbon credits. In a release issued by the ministry today, it says that G.O.B. has not authorized or sanctioned any of these transactions. The release says “the sale of carbon credits from Belize’s jurisdiction affects the national carbon budget/quota and our reporting requirements to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change inclusive of Belize’s national determined contributions commitments”. The release ends by saying that entities wishing to engage in the sale of carbon credits should contact the National Climate Change Office to undergo a review and approval process.
