Upcoming Projects by the Social Investment Fund
The inauguration in Crooked Tree is one of several projects in the pipeline for the Belize Social Investment Fund. SIF is the premiere implementing agency for the country of Belize, focusing on water systems, as well as health and education. On the ground, there is a lot of work that needs to be done across the country. Executive Director Carlos Tun shares details on some of these upcoming projects.
Carlos Tun, Executive Director, SIF
“Within water systems, we are currently working Libertad, Concepcion water system. Within education as you notice the preschool was inaugurated today. We also have the San Isidro Government School in the pipeline and also the Corazon Creek High School; work will soon start at that school. Most of the water systems, some communities want rehabilitation, meaning they have an existing water system but sometimes the chlorinator is not working, the pump house must be rehabilitated. So we try to engage the community in trying to rehabilitate that system. However in some areas in the south, there is no water at all in terms of potable water and access to the community. So there is where SIF has to do the initial community needs assessment and from there we are able to secure some funds or loans and then we start to build and expand their water systems.”
