Mitigating Measures for Farmers Ahead of Wet Weekend
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise has also issued an advisory for farmers in flood prone areas. The release says that crop producers are advised to harvest available and mature crops, make a note of all crops planted and production amount, and store harvested crops in cool, dry areas to avoid spoilage, unquote. Producers with tropical greenhouses or covered structures are being asked to remove covering materials, safely store equipment and supplies, and make a note of all crops planted and production amount. Meanwhile, livestock producers are advised to temporarily relocate animals to safer areas, ensure availability of animal feed and water, and make count of all animals. The ministry says it is advising farmers in low-lying and flood prone areas to safeguard their families and livelihoods as needed.
