Teacher and Son Knocked Down in Lord’s Bank
A primary school teacher and her five-year-old son were struck by a vehicle on Monday evening in Lord’s Bank as they were walking home. Tessa Myvett, a teacher at Bernice Yorke Institute of Learning, was along with her son when a vehicle knocked them down. While the little boy escaped serious injury, his mother wasn’t as lucky. She suffered multiple fractures on her hip and is unable to receive surgery in Belize. Myvett remains bedridden at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital and is making an appeal to students, parents and alumni of B.Y.I. to assist with her medical expenses. She has to be airlifted to the United States for a surgery to be performed by specialists. News Five spoke with Principal Sherry Ali about the incident and what is being done to help the injured educator.

“Our teacher, who is our science teacher for the middle division and also our homeroom teacher for Standard Four, Ms. Tessa Myvett, she was going home, she and her son, this happened on Monday evening. While she was going home, she took a bus and she was dropped off at Lord’s Bank Village and as they were walking home, a car slammed into them from the back. So they weren’t aware. They were walking on the side of the road and a car just slammed into them. Luckily, her son who is only five years old, he was flung forward, so he received minor injuries. Unfortunately, Miss Tessa took the brunt of the accident, the full impact. She got the full impact and because of that, she had multiple fractures. And the seriousness of the accident is that she basically fractured both of her hips and damage the ball joint.”
