Resident says Hopkins Village Needs Its Own Fire Department
It is time for Hopkins Village to have its own fire station, according to Donovan Maximo, one of the first residents on the scene of this morning’s fire at Ella’s Cool Spot. Maximo says that the fire fighters who responded to the inferno came all the way from Dangriga Town. He believes that the fire could have been extinguished with fewer damages, had there been a fire truck situated in Hopkins Village.

“It was us family first. I had my cousins that come all the way from my grandma’s house, all of us like all family. Then afterwards, we had other people coming in. It was all family first. We made sure to try to get all the boys and the men to try to make this fire out. But, we tried our best. We tried. We can’t say we didn’t try.”

“What about the fire department’s response. What are your thoughts on that?”
Donovan Maximo, Resident, Hopkins Village
“It was late. The place was gone already. Like I said, if they would have a fire station in Hopkins it would be much better. They came all the way from Dangriga. By the time they got here the place was all gone already. That was a late response, but my main thing is they got here and they still tried to do their best to keep some of the smoke and stuff down.”

“Do you think that a fire like this shows that it is time to get a fire truck in Hopkins?”
Donovan Maximo, Resident, Hopkins Village
“It does, it does, it does. I think that is something, as villagers, we need to try to work out and make sure happens before another incident like this happens.”
