Deputy P.M. Briceño meets with OAS Secretary General
While Belize’s Prime Minister was at the airport greeting his Taiwanese counterpart this morning, Deputy Prime Minister John Briceño was hosting the Secretary General of the Organization of American States Cesar Gaviria, who was also on an official visit. During a press conference, the Deputy Prime Minister pledged his government’s support to the numerous OAS activities in Belize.

“Belize, since 1991, is listed among the thirty-five members of the OAS and with support of the OAS national office in Belmopan, is actively engaged in shaping the hemispheric agenda and receiving the benefits of the OAS technical cooperation program. To date the O.A.S.-Belize collaboration includes areas such as strengthening democracy, public sector management, cultural preservation and enhancement, trade and export promotion, development of entrepreneurial talents among our youths, poverty reduction, disaster preparedness and response, drug abuse prevention, preservation of the environment, sustainable development, tourism competitiveness, and support for our initiative to establish a regional language center.”
