Summer Basketball Program Canceled

Aside from the training taking place, across the country, the national primary school basketball tournament is also underway. But what about the summer basketball program that the Belize Basketball Federation had announced for elite players? Today, B.B.F. President Jacob Leslie says that unfortunately, it had to be canceled for this year, but National Elite Basketball League will be back in full swing come January 2023.

“I was a strong proponent of that. I thought the elite players needed to get back into condition and get back into shape. One of the challenges we faced is that we are having a national tournament happening at the same time which is a tournament happening across ten different municipalities at the same time, two different age groups and there is limitation for referees and table officials. Sometime we are doing the same thing at the same time and it is counterproductive so I thought it was best for that tournament to take a back seat right now because we won’t have referees and we won’t have table officials to make sure it is done at a professional level and the paying fans get what they deserve. definitely, the summer tournament is something for NEBL that we want to do. This year it didn’t happen because of the conflict with that particular one. But again, NEBL will be back hopefully stronger than ever in January 2023.”
