Police release B.T.L. theft suspect
The police have released their primary suspect in the investigation of the theft of over sixty-two thousand dollars in cash, checks and tele-cards from B.T.L.’s Church Street office over the weekend. C.I.B. tells News Five they had to let the cashier they had detained go since the time had exceeded seventy-two hours, but that they are still gathering evidence. B.T.L.’s Karen Bevans says, however, that the cashier’s services have already been terminated on other grounds. She says B.T.L. is still looking at the circumstances surrounding the theft and has not taken action at this point against any of the security guards on duty when the money disappeared. The items in question were supposed to have been placed in five deposit bags and left in the safe at the end of office hours on Saturday. However, when the Monday cashier checked the safe, the bags, the money and the tele-cards were not inside.
