Government prepares for visit of Taiwanese Prime Minister

On Friday the Prime Minister of the Republic of China, Taiwan Vincent C. Siew and a delegation of government ministers, business people and journalists will arrive for a brief visit as part of a regional tour. Today the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the government press office released the itinerary of the visit which includes activities for Mrs. Siew and the spouses as well as the Taiwanese investors. The Prime Minister arrives on Friday and will be hosted by Prime Minister Said Musa at a luncheon. The officials will then travel to Belmopan for a courtesy call on the Governor General and meetings with the Cabinet. First Lady Joan Musa will accompany Mrs. Siew and the Taiwanese Ambassador’s wife Mrs. Shen on a tour of Belize City which includes stops at St. John’s Cathedral, the Government House Museum and the Child Care Center. The Trade and Investment Promotion Service will make a presentation to the Taiwanese investors followed by discussions with the business community. The investors will then tour the Nova Shrimp Farm. On Saturday the Taiwanese Prime Minister and the business delegation will attend a breakfast hosted by the Governor of the Central Bank, Chairman of the Belize Sugar Industries and the Chairman of the Development Finance Corporation. Area Representative Patty Arceo will also host Mrs. Siew and the spouses at their own breakfast. There will be a press conference later that morning and then the delegation leaves for California. Prime Minister Siew and his delegation are also visiting Haiti and the Dominican Republic. In October Belize’s Prime Minister Said Musa visited Tapei, Taiwan. This week’s visit is expected to address issues covered at that meeting and Taiwanese investment in Belize, including a large housing project, as well as strengthen ties between the two countries.
