ComPol Williams Responds to Cervantes’ Criticisms

You heard it, Orange Walk North Area Representative Ramon Cervantes Junior says that the Belize Police Department and Interpol have been dormant in the hunt for Manuel Castillo. The fugitive is believed to have absconded to neighboring Mexico after escaping from police officers who detained him at his home Orange Walk Town. This afternoon, Commissioner of Police Chester Williams responded to Cervantes’ criticism of the department’s efforts to capture Castillo and bring him to justice.

“I don’t know how the minister would say that because I personally had spoken to the minister about that matter and we certainly are in dialogue with Interpol and, in particular, our Mexican counterparts because we believe that this individual may be in Mexico.  The issue is, or the difficulty is that they have not been able to locate him, but it is a live issue and we continue to be in search of that individual.”

“Reporter: Your family was particularly critical of the police department in the first few years of this case.  It took the three accused that they caught initially, eight years and you guys were very dissatisfied with the way the investigations were progressing how that happened.”
