BATSUB Officer Accused of Stealing Men’s Deodorant and Alcohol In Store Burglary

Oscar Mira

A British army officer is suspected of being the orchestrator a robbery on the Price Barracks Compound in Ladyville. Reports are that the duty-free store situated inside the BATSUB base was broken into. Stolen from the store was an assortment of men’s deodorant, scotch whiskey, snickers bars, and cigarettes. Minister of State in the Ministry of National Defense and Border Security Oscar Mira says the matter is now in the hands of Ladyville Police.

“It is a police matter. It has been handed over to Ladyville Police to investigate. Of note is that Price Barracks is divided into two. We have the Belize Defense Force side of Price Barracks, then you have the BATSUB side of Price Barracks. The store is located in the BATSUB side of Price Barracks. There is a video that captures the incident. Police are investigating at this point in time. I think they have made some head way. I have not gotten the results of the investigation as yet. But, all indications are that it was probably done by a member from BATSUB side.”

“Is there anything interesting about the items that were taken, alcohol, and men’s deodorant?”

“Also cigarettes sir, scotch whiskey, snickers, and other bars of chocolate, specifically Dove male products.”

“It is a duty free store for BATSUB personnel. It is not for BDF, so it is for BATSUB personnel as part of the agreement that BATSUB and the British Army has with the Government of Belize. They have access to duty free. So indeed, there will be those items of liquor and cigarettes. They cater for the British soldiers so it will be mostly those items for British male soldiers. I guess that is the reason why those items specifically were stolen.”
