When reporters caught up with the Leader of the Opposition on Thursday in Belmopan, he was also asked to weigh on his father’s criticism of his leadership, and efforts at building a formidable opposition. The former Prime Minister is on record saying he hopes the warring factions within the U.D.P. can meet on common grounds for the sake of the party. Well, the Leader of the Opposition says his father’s difference of opinions drives home the point that Shyne Barrow and Dean Barrow are two different persons, a reality he proudly acknowledges.

“I’m so happy he did that because what it does is it highlights and reinforces what has always been the reality but what due to people with their political narratives have tried to impressive upon the Belizean people which is a complete lie which is that somehow my father and I are the same. It’s just not the truth. The Right Hon Prime Minister has his views and I have mine and there is no homogeneous family policy and family vision. Shyne Barrow is Shyne Barrow and Dean Barrow is Dean Barrow so he has a right to his views on foreign policy and I have a right to mine and it does not strain our relationship one bit. That’s a part of democracy that’s what makes it so beautiful.”
